Heat Trace Cable

No matter how cold the weather gets, you won’t have to worry about frozen pipes, ice dams or slippery sidewalks, when your facility has 24-hour protection against freeze-ups with heat tracing cables, provided by Roberts Electrical.

Save on electricity by putting heat exactly where it’s needed, instead of wasting energy to heat the entire length of the cable. Heat tracing cables are an energy-saving alternative to conventional “constant wattage” cables that heat uniformly along their entire length. Constructed using an advanced carbon polymer materials technology, heat tracing cables are self-regulating – meaning they adjust their heat output automatically in response to ambient air temperatures along every inch of their length.

As the ambient temperature surrounding a particular section of cable drops, the electrical paths in the carbon-polymer heating matrix become shorter, decreasing its resistance. This causes the heat output of that section of cable to increase.

Conversely, when the ambient temperature rises, the resistance of the heating matrix increases, which lowers the heat output. This effect allows the cable to “self-regulate” its heat output, without the need for separate thermostats.

Gutters, Roofs, Spouts, Drains

Many roof leaks are the direct result of snow and ice build-up in the gutter or along the roof edge. These ice dams create excessive pressure on the roofing material. The result is lifting and damage of the seal. When the ice melts, the water has no path to the gutter and/or down-spout and infiltrates into the structure.

During winter the temperature is often around zero degrees. At these temperatures large collections of ice and snow are often found on roofs and in gutters. This ice and snow can easily create hazardous safety concerns, especially when ice is falling from above. Installing heat trace cables on roofs and in gutters reduces the risk of falling snow and ice and ensures proper roof and gutter drainage preventing roof leaks and structural damage.

Evaluate the Roof Construction: Warm Roof or Cold Roof?

Warm roof: A poorly insulated roof where heat loss through the roof causes a positive temperature on the roof surface under a layer of snow. Water from melting snow will collect in the cold roof drains and freeze.

Cold roof: A well insulated roof where icing occurs, often in the late winter. Sunshine will melt snow on the roof while the roof drains and gutters may be in the shadow. The melting water will then freeze. Repeated occurrences will harm the roof and split gutters and downspouts.

Electric Snow Melting

Flexibility

Cables can be installed in poured concrete, asphalt, interlocking pavers or retrofit projects on existing asphalt and concrete surfaces. All snow melting systems we provide are designed and tailored to our customer’s needs.

Safety

Automatic snow melting systems provide safety, reduced winter maintenance and a cleaner residential, retail or commercial space. Heated stairs and walkways can greatly reduce the chance of slip and fall accidents around your home, offices and factories. The snow sensor controller continually monitors weather conditions resulting in a clean, dry surface after the end of a storm.

Time Saving

Snow melting systems reduce use of salt and snow melting chemicals, eliminate snow removal on walks, ramps and stairs. Snow melt systems greatly reduce the cost of labor for snow and ice control around offices, schools, factories and residences. No more shoveling, salt spreading or snow blowing and plowing. Walks and ramps are safer in case of emergencies.

Ultimate Amenity

Imagine coming home after a long day or leaving your home in the morning and having a clean, dry driveway, stairs, porch and walkway. No need for strenuous shoveling and the time it takes to make your home look safe, clean and inviting. Roberts Electrical will provide you with snow melting systems, making life easier and more comfortable for family and friends. In commercial applications your clients and employees will appreciate your clean walks and ramps, no more trudging through salt and slush or risking injury on icy surfaces.

Eco-Friendly

Snow melting is a great alternative to introducing salts and chemicals into the environment when trying to melt snow and ice. Most de-icing compounds used are harmful to concrete surfaces and landscape plants. The symptoms of salt injury to deciduous trees and shrubs include stunted growth, marginal leaf scorch, early fall coloration, and twig dieback. Accumulation of salt in the soil over time will result in the progressive decline and eventual death of your precious plants and trees.
